Sue Allen

Finding Comfort in Salt
by Sue Allen
Big White Shed

cover Sue Allen approached us to produce a poetry pamphlet. She has produced her own work in the past but wanted this collection of poems to be part of Big White Shed. Her manuscript had been fully edited by some of her peers so all we had to do was typeset, design and proof. Sue opted for a simple stapled book as this collection has only 10 poems which explore loss and finding comfort.

Hongwei Bao

Dream of the Orchid Pavilion
Hongwei Bao
Poetry

cover Informed by his life experience as a queer Chinese migrant living in the UK, Hongwei Bao’s book ruminates upon love, intimacy, memory, heritage and identity.

On a late spring day of 353 CE, to celebrate the Spring Purification Festival, a group of forty-two Chinese literati gathered by a zigzagging brook playing a social game. Small cups filled with rice wine flew downstream. If a cup stopped in front of a person, they must either compose a poem or drink the wine. Thirty-seven poems were composed on that day, and a lot of rice wine were consumed. What if we could travel in time and join them in the party?

cover Hongwei Bao’s latest collection, Self-Portrait as a Banana, is a candid exploration of his queer, diasporic, East Asian identity and cross-cultural relationships. Appropriating, subverting and queering cultural tropes like the banana, rice and beckoning cat, and identities such as queerness and Chineseness, this is a powerful journey. A bold, humorous and refreshing celebration of queer desire, identity and cultural differences.

Kevin had editing input from his friends and supporters in the poetry community and we supported him with a final edit as part of the process.
